CHEF DARWYN

Founder of Blacc’s Private Dining

My name is Chef Darwyn Joseph, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned on this journey, it’s that food has a way of speaking when words fall short.

I was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, into a proud Haitian family, and raised by two strong women — my mother and grandmother — who filled our home with love, discipline, and the smell of something always simmering on the stove. At just three years old, we moved to Lawrence, MA, where I grew up and attended school through my senior year.

It was in that small kitchen in Lawrence, standing beside my mother and grandma or glued to cooking shows featuring legends like Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse, and Rachael Ray, that my passion for cooking came to life. I was only 11 years old, but I knew deep down — this wasn’t just a hobby. It was a God-given gift. I dreamed of going to culinary school, of serving my food to thousands, of making people feel something deep through every bite of Haitian cuisine.

When I was accepted into Johnson & Wales University, it felt like a dream coming true — but life had other plans. My mother, a single parent already supporting my older brother’s college journey, simply couldn’t afford the tuition. So, I chose a different path and enrolled at Salem State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. It was the practical choice. But my heart never left the kitchen.

After graduation, I did what most people do — I got a job to pay the bills. But something never felt right. I was surviving, not living. Then came a traumatic life event that changed everything. It shook me awake and reminded me how short and fragile life really is. That moment pushed me to stop existing in the shadows of what-ifs — and finally chase what had always been calling me.

That calling became Blacc’s Kitchen.

Blacc’s Kitchen isn’t just about food — it’s about creating exceptional cooking experiences, sharing culture, honoring heritage, and bringing people together around the table. Through a unique blend of Haitian soul and Jamaican spice, I offer luxury dining experiences that ignite conversation, celebrate diversity, and serve more than just a meal — they serve meaning.

Whether you’re planning an intimate dinner, celebrating a milestone, or simply craving something bold and unforgettable, I would be honored to bring the islands to your table.

Let’s create something special together.
